Barbara Vaughn is an artist whose work transcends the traditional and preconceived notions of photography, inviting viewers to a realm where the mundane becomes a mystery through her profound connection to water.
Vaughn’s artistic process is deeply intuitive, allowing her to explore themes of transformation, transience, and perception, with an eye toward Surrealism and Cubism. Each piece represents a unique time stamp, archiving a fleeting moment that can never be recreated or repeated. With her signature approach to camera-based abstraction, she challenges the conventions of photography and encourages analysis of her mesmerizing images.
Through her work, Vaughn seeks to stir a sense of wonder and curiosity, prompting audiences to reevaluate their interpretations and engage their imaginations. Her art is not just a visual experience; it is an invitation to reflect and celebrate the beauty and power of nature’s possibilities.
Barbara Vaughn is a fine-art photographer based in New York City and Paros, Greece. She is represented by several galleries in the US and her artwork is in numerous noteworthy private collections. Since 2013, her signature waterscapes and other photographic series have been the subject of more than 25 solo and group shows in the U.S. and internationally. Vaughn graduated from Princeton University and attended the International Center of Photography in NYC, among other educational programs.
My desire is to harness the beauty of water in a visual puzzle for the viewer, showcasing the tensions between reality and abstraction, the familiar and the unrecognizable, the physical facts and the mysteries only a camera can capture. You're invited to enjoy the enigma. - BV
