Anna Skibska
Anna Skibska graduated from the Academy of Art in Wroclaw, Poland in 1984.
Polish Minister of Culture and Art awarded Skibska a major exhibition in 1984 at the Museum of Architecture, Wroclaw, Poland
From 1985 to1996 Anna Skibska was faculty member at Academy of Art in Wroclaw, Poland. In 1990 she presented her work at the at Porte de Versailles in Paris France. In 1992, she was the youngest artist invited to the National Museum in Wroclaw for her individual exhibition.
Her signature technique, known as Anna Skibska Technique, was developed in the 1990s.
She works in glass sculpture, photography, collage, film, and installation. Her work captures the dynamic relationship between the intersection of space, time and light.
Seattle Art Museum hosted her first solo exhibit at an American museum in 2001. In 2004, Pratt Fine Arts Center in Seattle officially named its flameworking studio the Anna Skibska Flameworking Studio.
Other international exhibitions of note include the Fondacione Bevilaqua la Masa in Venice (2002), the 11e Pavillon des Arts,Paris (2007), Le Verre Exposision, Versailles, France. (2008), Museo del Vetro, Murano, Venice the 2013 Venice Biennale. Since 1984, Skibska has presented more than 60 individual exhibitions throughout the world.
I believe that architecture is a crown for art, sound and silence, light and dark, not mere brick and steel. Architecture and art are strongly connected: Fine arts do not decorate architecture; architecture is not a shell for fine arts. They are an integral part of each other, and this relationship interests me. - AS
